Ice-watcher will embark on new mission

After more than a year of successfully measuring the thickness of Earth’s ice, the European Space Agency’s CryoSat mission is about to embark on a new task, forecasting conditions at sea to make sailors' lives safer. As it orbits from pole to pole, the satellite's radar will measure sea level plus the height of waves.
